Definition

What is custom POS software?

Custom POS software is a point of sale you build around your business, instead of buying a closed till designed for everyone and no one. With Backhurry, you start from your catalogue, choose your payment methods, your VAT rates, your categories, your receipts — and you sell.

The difference comes down to one word: editable. A new product line, a second point of sale, a promotion, an extra currency: you adjust it yourself, with no new quote, without waiting for the vendor. A standard till is something you put up with; this one adapts.

And because the till lives in the same tool as your stock, your customers and your documents, a sale decrements stock and updates the customer record in real time — no export to reconcile in the evening.

Discover the no-code core that powers the till.

Checkout

Take payment the way your customers pay

One basket, one amount, one payment method — or several at once. The Backhurry till handles a shop's everyday payments, change calculation included.

Cash

Enter the amount received and the till works out the change.

Card

Through your card terminal at the counter, or online via Stripe for remote payment.

Cheque

Cheque payments recorded and attached to the sale.

Store credit

Issue and redeem store credit: a return becomes a credit usable on the next sale.

€ / F

Multi-currency: EUR, XPF…

Selling in euros on the mainland, in Pacific francs in Tahiti? The till takes payment in your market's currency, with the right symbol and rounding on the receipt.

Tamper-proofing & invoices

Sealed receipts, impossible to tamper with

Every receipt is sealed with a cryptographic fingerprint and chained to the previous one: changing or deleting a sale afterwards would break the chain — and would show. This is the logic of tamper-proofing in the spirit of the NF525 standard: you don't erase, you cancel with a traced operation.

Your sales thus form a continuous, verifiable journal, from the first receipt to the last. For you, that's peace of mind in case of an audit; for your customers, a clean, reliable receipt.

Need an invoice? The till generates a PDF document from the sale, with your details, your automatic numbering and the line-by-line breakdown — ready to print or send.

"In the spirit of NF525": let's be precise.

Backhurry applies the principles of tamper-proofing, security, retention and chaining of receipts. We speak of the spirit of NF525, not an NF525 certification issued by an accredited body: depending on your tax regime and sector, check your own obligations. When in doubt, your accountant remains your reference.

End of day

Close your day in one click

At closing, run the Z closing: the till freezes the day's totals — revenue by payment method, VAT collected, number of receipts, any cash discrepancy. You know exactly what happened, without adding it up by hand.

And because your data belongs to you, the sales journal is exportable: send it to your accountant, archive it, re-import it elsewhere. Here, nothing is locked in — it's your business, they're your figures.

Your data stays yours, freely exportable →
Offline mode

Network down? You take payment anyway.

Internet outage, a shop in the basement, an open-air market: the sale doesn't stop. In offline mode, the till prints the receipt immediately and seals it locally. The customer leaves, paid up, receipt in hand.

As soon as the connection returns, each sale is anchored in the background in your journal, in its place in the chain — no double entry, no lost receipt.

You sell without a second thought; the syncing does the thinking for you.

1

Instant receipt

The customer is charged on the spot, connection or not.

2

Sealed locally

The sale is secured on the device, tamper-proof from the very first second.

3

Automatic anchoring

Back online, everything flows into the journal, in order.

Till + stock

Every sale updates your stock

The till doesn't live apart: it's linked to your stock. Every sale decrements quantities in real time — no more wrong inventory on Monday morning, no more stockout discovered at the till.

Selling composed products? Backhurry handles the bill of materials: a case contains displays, a display contains boosters. Open a case to sell by the unit and the till automatically deducts the derived stock. Sell the whole case or a single booster: quantities follow, at every level.

It's the same logic for a pack, a bundle or a menu: one sale, the right count, everywhere.

Use cases

Built for the shop

A cash register for a shop has to keep up with the counter and fit a precise trade. Here's how businesses use it.

Multi-payment retail

Cash at the counter, card, cheque, store credit on returns: every everyday case, with a clear Z closing at the end of the day.

Mobile sales / market stall

A stall with no reliable network: offline mode prints the receipt on the spot and anchors the sale as soon as you're back online.

A trading card game shop uses Backhurry as its everyday till: a catalogue of thousands of references, composed products, sealed receipts.

The right tool

Why not a closed till?

Standard tills do the minimum, but their way — not yours. Here's where they fall short, and what a custom till changes.

The limits of a closed till

  • Rigid: you can't add the field, category or sales method specific to your business.
  • Siloed: stock, customers and documents live in other tools that don't talk to each other.
  • Costly and opaque: mandatory hardware, options billed separately, and your data sometimes hard to get back.

What a custom till changes

  • Editable with no new quote: you add, remove and reorganise yourself, whenever your business changes.
  • Everything in one place: till, stock, customers and documents in a single tool that talks to itself.
  • One flat price and your own data: €9/user per month, everything included, free export.

Backhurry steps in where closed tills fail: the flexibility of a custom tool, the reliability of a real till — for €9/user per month, no commitment. See the price: €9/month, all included.

Setup

Your till ready in 3 steps

Minutes, not weeks. No heavy install, no mandatory hardware, no consultant.

1

Build your catalogue

Import your products from a CSV/Excel file, or describe your business to the AI assistant: it sets up the structure (products, prices, VAT, categories) that you then adjust.

2

Tune the till to your business

Choose your payment methods, your currency, your receipt and invoice details. Turn on linked inventory if you track it.

3

Open up and sell

Take payments, print sealed receipts, close at the end of the day. Online or offline, the till keeps up.

Yes, it's one of its strengths: a sale decrements stock in real time. And if you sell composed products (a case of displays, a display of boosters), the bill of materials deducts the derived stock at the right level, whether you sell the bundle or the single unit.
